I have to admit that I do have a sweet tooth, which is why I love baking and creating my own recipes. Baking is actually one way I love to de-stress and have time to myself. I love playing music in the background, with the occasional glass of red wine. Lately, I have really been into making no-bake (raw) desserts. This is also because I live in an area where it is consistently over 100 degrees in the summer and the last thing you want to do is to turn on that oven! It actually reached 113 degrees the other day here in Fresno CA!!! The fabulous thing about no bake desserts is that you do not need to turn on the oven! In addition to that, they are a delicious, healthier alternative to your typical dessert. They taste delectable and you feel good after eating them. What's not to love?! My favorite dessert combination is chocolate and peanut butter. If you are a chocolate, peanut butter lover like me, this is the treat for you! My raw, vegan Snickers bar provides you with that chocolatey peanut butter taste that you crave, with it not being too overly sweet to upset your stomach. For my athletes out there or anyone trying to increase their daily protein intake, well, I decided to twist up the recipe a little bit and boost the protein content to this dessert. Compared to a regular Snickers candy bar with 3 grams protein, this healthier Snickers not only provides 7 grams protein per serving, but also contains 3 grams fiber and nearly half the amount of sugar! Oh, and did I mention how good it tastes?! Don't get me wrong, I do love a good candy bar here in there, but when I want to feel good for my early morning track workout the next day, I go for this treat to satisfy that sweet tooth of mine.
